"Like any other sport, wrestling’s popularity was heavily dependent on fan support, and thankfully, we had some of the best around. The Sydney scene was full of loyal fans who would travel not just around Sydney but all over New South Wales to attend shows, and we always chatted to them before and after shows. We got to know a lot of them by their first names and there were some great characters like Clary, Gaetano, ‘One-ball’ Ken, Shirley, Les Kent, Skull, Rocky, Happy Humphrey, James Stanios, Paul Robinson, Sandy and Rebecca, Mark Harvey, and John Shelvey. I even attended the wedding of one fan: Steven Ditz whom I had met through another fan (Sue Chuter from Melbourne). I developed personal friendships with a number of Sydney fans over the years and I’m lucky to be still friends with them today, even long after my retirement. Friends like Ed Lock, Martin Heppell, Dave Reck , and Dann Leonard were huge fans and were instrumental in helping me get this book going. Others like Graham ‘Fozzy’ Young ended up in the business, wrestling for a year or two before finding his niche as a well-respected referee and going on to have a great twenty-year career. Then there were fans like Jolene Taylor and her mum and grandmother, Alan Griffiths, Kirk and Colleen Beattie, Stephen Chard , The Gleeson family, Greg Tingle, and Andy Raymond. Greg is a journalist with several websites dedicated to sports and Andy is a famous sports broadcaster who had a 25-year career with Foxtel and now runs his own sports podcasts. Obviously, each state has their own loyal fanbase, which the wrestlers really appreciate, but I think Sydney’s fans are the best." Photo credit: Ken Dunlop
Greg Tingle: Great stuff Ken...I think I may have just sped-read my favorite chapter of the book. It's about fans and supporters, and well of course those prepared to risk their neck, back and life to entertain the masses for an honest carney living. I will always respect every wrestler for just being prepared to get in the wrestling ring and give it a go. In a world of critics where everyone is an expert, there's only so many who will actually become a professional wrestler and be able to enjoy a sustainable career. Much respect, and thanks for the memories.

Arnold Schwarzenegger tipped to induct Bruno Sammartino into WWE Hall of Fame 2013...
WWE's top choice to induct Sammartino into the Hall of Fame this year is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bruno and Arnold have been friends for over 40 years, when they worked out together in New York and California in the late 1960's and early 70's. Bruno Sammartino was one of the judges of the Mr. Olympia contest that Schwarzenegger won and also they judged several bodybuilding contests together in later years.
They remain mates to this day and will be together in a few weeks when Bruno Sammartino is inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame that is part of the Arnold Classic in Columbus, OH on March 2nd.
Sammartino tipped to be in WWE 2K 14 video game...
With WWE working on several projects for Bruno Sammartino this year, the 2013 Hall of Famer is expected to be a playable character in the new WWE 2K14 video game, in an attempt to draw in older video game players. Bruno is also fully expected to participate in DVD releases, including some on his career and life, as well as a potential movie - documentary project.
Donald Trump announced for WWE Hall of Fame 2013...
On Saturday, April 6, 2013, real estate mogul, best-selling author and perennial thorn in Mr. McMahon’s side Donald Trump will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside Bruno Sammartino, Mick Foley, Bob Backlund and Trish Stratus in Madison Square Garden.
“Donald is a global icon whose status brought an unmatched level of publicity and grandeur to WWE,” WWE Chairman and CEO Mr. McMahon said.
The star and co-producer of the hit NBC series, "The Apprentice" — which premieres its 13th season on Sunday, March 3 — Trump has been a key figure in WWE since 1988 when his Trump Plaza hosted WrestleMania IV. The following year, WrestleMania V emanated from the same building, making it the first venue to present consecutive Show of Shows.
The Donald’s most lasting impact on WWE occurred at WrestleMania 23 when he put his famous head of hair on the line against Mr. McMahon’s mane in a “Battle of the Billionaires.” A record number of viewers tuned in to see Trump back Bobby Lashley to victory over Mr. McMahon’s Umaga and then shave The Chairman’s head in front of more than 80,000 WWE fans.
“It was literally the thrill of a lifetime performing in front of 80,000 enthusiastic fans during the ‘Battle of the Billionaires’ match at WrestleMania 23,” Donald Trump said.
Trump wasn’t done with Mr. McMahon just yet as he returned in 2009 to purchase Monday Night Raw from his rival. The following week, The Donald presented the show commercial-free and gave every fan in attendance a full refund. “I’ve always enjoyed and respected WWE’s brand of entertainment and look forward to the ceremony in my hometown at Madison Square Garden,” the Chairman and President of The Trump Organization said.
The Rock movie ratings...
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Rock's latest movie Snitch took the #2 spot at the U.S. box office. The movie opened with $13 million, just behind Identity Thief, which took the top slot with $14.1 million. The article noted that the movie opened respectably, although the studio likely wanted it to do better. The movie did open better than Rock's last solo action film, Faster, which took in $8 million during its opening weekend. The movie also opened better than recent action flicks from Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Hulk Hogan to get new reality TV show...
Hulk Hogan noted on his Twitter that he will be working on a new reality show. No other details were given. He wrote, "Very grateful for attracting a new reality show where I get to work with family and a few good friends that always wanted to be in show biz, Ill keep the Maniacs updated during the hard work make it real process,great to be in the positive abundant flow of Gods universe. HH"

Chris Jericho interviewed about wrestling, his rock band Fozzy and more...

WWE Superstar Chris Jericho made an appearance on a special edition of AfterBuzz TV's RAW aftershow Tuesday night. The wrestling legend was invited on the network to discuss his return to WWE and the new Syfy show, Robot Combat League, which Jericho hosts. In the interview, Jericho discusses his recent RAW Active match with CM Punk, why his return to wrestling is different than other Superstars, and how his now infamous jacket came to fruition.
Growing up, Jericho wanted to be two things: a pro wrestler and a rock star. Now the 42-year-old wrestler is in the middle of yet another return to the WWE and just embarked on a multi-day Australian tour with his band, Fozzy.
"This past month has been one of my best months ever," Jericho says.
Jericho is one of the few Superstars who has not only been able to parlay his wrestling career into other aspects of the entertainment industry, but also committed enough to give 100% every time he reenters the ring.
He tells AfterBuzz, "Nothing against what Rock does or Brock or any of those guys, when I come back, I don't just come back for Monday Night Raw. I do the house shows."
Since Jericho's return, he's reignited his feud with fellow Superstars, Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk. He recounts Feb 4th's WWE RAW Active match between himself and CM Punk, where the writers created a poll to designate which wrestler, out of Chris Jericho, Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio, would face Punk. A flash poll earlier in the week, predicted Orton to be the challenger and the writers told Jericho to not prepare with Punk—he would face Wade Barrett.
The afternoon of the match, Jericho thought, "I knew I was going to win [the RAW active poll]," and he was right. He says the writers were shocked the fans chose him over Orton.
Jericho joked, "I went to the writers' room and said, 'All you guys with your flash polls, go F yourself, you can suck it.'"
Later in the interview, Y2J talks about how every time he returns to wrestling he wants to do something fresh.
"I've always wanted to be the Paul Stanley of wrestling...the ultimate frontman or lead singer who commands the crowd. Whenever I come back I try to do something different," says Jericho. "I had this idea...Googled and then found this designer, Jonathan Logan. Went to visit him in the Fashion District and didn't really know anything about him. Turns out he makes all of Brad Pitt's stuff, all of Justin Bieber's stuff, David Lee Roth's stuff."
After collaborating on a design, Logan suggested adding lights to the jacket as he had done for an Alecia Keys outfit, thus creating the iconic glowing jacket Jericho sports at shows.
As cool as the jacket is, Jericho says, it's also a hassle. "There's little wires and they snap all the time. I constantly have to [fix] them." Jericho says WWE's prop guys yell at him for having to fix the jacket so frequently.
Jericho divulges that the entire right side of his jacket broke before his intro at Wrestlemania XXVIII last year. "I had to turn and walk backwards and cheat the camera," says Jericho, "I didn't want anyone to see that the whole right side of my jacket had gone out...this was literally two minutes before I had to go to the ring. I was furious. I could have given a crap about the match, all I cared about was my stupid jacket."
When asked about traveling with the jacket, Jericho mentioned an instance when he was traveling and he originally placed his jacket in his check luggage, however, the luggage was overweight. Jericho had to remove the jacket and take it as carry on, despite not having a bag to put it in.
"I had to ask [TSA] for a garbage bag. I put my big fancy jacket in a garbage bag and put it through security. One guy called me out and said 'Jericho man, that's your jacket? You can't keep it in a plastic bag.'"
Another recent change in appearance are Jericho's new tattoos. He says, "I just thought it would be cool to get a tattoo, something that means something to me. It's something I've always wanted to do and now was the time to do it."
On Jericho's new show, Syfy's Robot Combat League, Jericho enthuses, "It's Real Steel with actual Robots." He says it's nothing like Mick Foley's robot show, Robot Wars.
"The first thing that I thought when I was in the arena and they brought the robot out, if it hadn't stopped walking I would have turned around and ran away. It was that intimidating," Jericho says, "We've now created robots that can kill humans, and in 10-years when they take over the planet, you'll know you saw it first on Robot Combat League."
Robot Combat League premieres on Syfy Feb. 26th at 10/9c.
